Jay Reatard RIP
Jay Reatard (1980-2010)
I’m not going to pretend I was some huge fan or anything, but it’s still pretty sad. I really enjoyed a bunch of the songs off Blood Visions and hoped to have had the chance to hear more from him.

Judee Sill – For A Rainbow Lyrics
as transcribed by me from the Bill Callahan cover version:
Where did our dreams all go?
If you touch me you could let me know
Like the storm breaks for a rainbow
We watched while love disclosed white forever (?)
Lets save moment glows
While the storm breaks for a rainbow
If i could only show how my heart breaks
And the memories flow
Like the storm breaks for a rainbow
You gave me more than know
But i’ll remember what we treasured most
When the storm broke for the rainbow
I’d give my life, my soul
if you love me once before you go
And let the storm break for the rainbow
Where did the rainbow go?

Calvin Johnson covers Little Wings
I know some people will not really care for this, but I find Calvin Johnson intriguing… and he covers my favorite Little Wings song.
Alejandro Escovedo – Golden Bear
There’s a creature in my body,
There’s a creature in my blood,
Don’t know how long he’s been there,
Or why he’s after us.
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
But I’m as stubborn as a tree trunk,
A screen door in the breeze,
And like a wildcat in the summertime,
The sun can’t hide from me.
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
Last night as I lay dreaming,
Caught an endless wave,
My brothers battled out behind me,
And formed a circle ’round my grave.
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
Oh, why me? (Golden Bear’s running down)
Little Archie – You Can’t Tie Me Down – Lyrics
lyrics as transcribed by me:
I like to travel I like to move around from town to town
I like to travel I like to see what makes this world go ’round
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
I’d like to live in the way out west and ride the old prairie
I like to visit Dodge City, Tombstone, and go to Laramie
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
I got a girl in every port from Spain to Mexico
Been taken to court for non-support one hundred times or more
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
If you hear me riding fast you’ll know that you will see
A posse of pretty women riding after me
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
This New Years Eve i was locked up tight in a New York county jail
I had a girl shipped C.O.D. in a package thorugh the mail
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
Isaac Hayes – Lay Lady Lay
There are at least two dozen decent covers of Bob Dylan’s “Lay Lady Lay”. Yes… really, two dozen that are not terrible. For some reason the Isaac Hayes version just doesn’t translate for me. It doesn’t make much sense… I think it just becomes too dirty of a song. There is something simpler (folksier!) about most of the other verision (ie. not Ministry’s version) which Hayes blows out of the water.
Take a listen for yourself (click through to hear the whole song).
Rebop/Remi
I accidentally made the mistake of thinking Remi Kabaka was Rebob Kwaku. Apparently I’m not the first one. Looks like Remi has been trying to clarify that he “is sill very much alive” by modifying the Rebop Wikipedia page. Sorry Remi, but if people can tell you apart from a dead man… you’re already dead.
