The State Theme / Nation of Ulysses
Is it known that the “Action, Action, Action!” portion of the theme to The State (1993) called “Boys and Girls” by Craig Wedren (of Shudder to Think) actually copies/rips off/homages the song “The Hickey Underworld” by The Nation of Ulysses off of Plays Pretty For Baby (1992)?
If not, than I am pointing it out. If so I’m just restating it.
Fig Newtons
Every couple of years I come across the packages of Fig Newtons in the grocery store, think of my grandmother, and then buy them. Immediately after taking my first bite, I’m taken back to Clark Street in Old Forge, PA where I fondly remember telling my grandmother that I hate these disgusting cookies.

Little Archie – You Can’t Tie Me Down – Lyrics
lyrics as transcribed by me:
I like to travel I like to move around from town to town
I like to travel I like to see what makes this world go ’round
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
I’d like to live in the way out west and ride the old prairie
I like to visit Dodge City, Tombstone, and go to Laramie
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
I got a girl in every port from Spain to Mexico
Been taken to court for non-support one hundred times or more
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
If you hear me riding fast you’ll know that you will see
A posse of pretty women riding after me
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
This New Years Eve i was locked up tight in a New York county jail
I had a girl shipped C.O.D. in a package thorugh the mail
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down
You can’t tie me down

Yeah fine… I watch What Not To Wear… whatever. I don’t care. I watch it ALOT! I’ve probably seen every episode. It’s easy to let it out when you can’t shake the anger you feel for this week’s episode. What a c*nt! Seriously, one of the most ungrateful people ever, and they’ve had some bad ones. It’s pretty clear I’m not the only one, just read the WNTW blog entry’s comments.
Ahhh! It makes me so mad!

Marshalls Creek Flea Market
My parents and I visit the Marshalls Creek flea market about once every year. I think I’ve always hated going but just never had the heart to tell my mom. This year the locals seemed weirder than ever. Michael Jackson gear was in full effect. Many New Yorkers of the latin persuasion in clothes that were way too tight. Tweety Bird was by far the most represented Looney Tunes character for the thirteenth year in a row. The dealers are getting lazier and lazier each year: a majority of the wares were left in the box on the ground for you pick through. Not a funnel cake to be seen and the bonsai trees were droopy and dried up.
There were many things that should be sold not there: moderately dangerous fireworks, bongs and bowls, samurai swords, ninja swords, chinese stars, BB guns of all shapes, sizes, and apparently power, novena candles, razor blade refills for razors not even on the market anymore, all of the Faces of Death and Bum Fights DVDs, knock offs of everything from ball caps and perfumes to purses and Apple Bottoms jeans.
The minor treasures I picked up were: “Into Hot Air: Mounting Mount Everest” by Chris Elliott ($2.50), “The Life and Times of The Thunderbolt Kid” by Bill Bryson ($2.50) (both books new hardcover), a monkey shaped money clip ($2.00), and a cuban sandwich – hold the pickles ($4.00).
With some act of miraculous restraint my parents came home with only socks, a spatula, a Philly pretzel, and two PediPaws pet nail trimmers.

Someday my kids are going to ask me about Michael Jackson. What will I say?

Love/Work
Some say love is a lot of work. Others say it’s not work if you love what you’re doing.
Leonard Cohen – Live @ The Academy of Music
May 12, 2009 – Philadelphia
I consider myself lucky to have seen Leonard Cohen perform twice in my life, albeit on the same tour. Although the novelty of seeing Leonard Cohen was greater in Toronto (2008) – this show (better seats) surprised me with how well he is holding up over a long year (plus) on the road. Jumping a bit, a definite spring in his step. Not bad for a 74 year old. Van Morrison at 61 (2007) couldn’t even come close.
